The school’s Vision:

Langstone Academy is a community of learners who strive and aspire to ‘be excellent together’. As learners we seek to challenge and question the world around us to develop the skills to be lifelong learners.

Our Curriculum intent:

  • Students of Langstone are provided with memorable learning and experiences to enrich their lives and take them on a rich, curious journey of discovery that widens their ability to question the world around them.
  • The curriculum develops the whole child including physical and mental well-being. It explores a wide variety of concepts that promotes mutual respect and tolerance of the diverse community we live in.
  • Students develop the necessary skills, vocabulary, knowledge and attributes so that they can make choices about how they might contribute to this society.
  • Core thinking skills are at the heart of learning as a means to develop at a personal level to be ‘resilient, reflective thinkers’ and seek to apply this to everyday experiences including technology.
  • Students are empowered to be aspirational and strive in all aspects of their lives.

Our curriculum implementation:

  • A carefully designed curriculum that builds on and makes links to prior learning and students’ experiences, whilst developing language and communication skills.
  • Providing rich experiences to enable all pupils’ to access the same learning opportunities.
  • Using the Langstone Mastery Model with challenge and corrective learning that ensures all children can achieve.
  • Providing all our learners with outcome driven, enquiry-based tasks which promote independent thinking and enable them to demonstrate understanding appropriate for their age.  
  • Develop and recognise personal skills through the explicit and targeted teaching of the school’s values for learning.
  • Provide a broad, balanced curriculum, including wider curriculum opportunities, that allow children to reflect and contemplate the world around them and their place in it.

Our curriculum impact will be:

  • High student engagement and interest across a wide range of subjects.
  • Improved outcomes and personal development for all pupils.
  • Student experiences that enrich and give purpose to learning helping it to become memorable and lasting
  • Our pupils gaining long term knowledge and demonstrate a deeper understanding of the skills.
  • Children ready for the next stage in their learning as confident, competent learners who can articulate themselves both emotionally and academically.

Resilience is –

  • Persevering with a positive attitude until successful.
  • Having the ability to think through and overcome problems.
  • Using resources and initiative without prompting.
  • Having the confidence to learn from mistakes and to see the opportunities when exploring.
  • Collaborating and discussing ideas to deepen children’s own understanding.

Reflecting is –

  • Generating questions and ideas to initiate self-enquiry.
  • Using prior knowledge and experiences to make links and support learning.
  • Knowing what has been learnt and how to move forward.
  • Discovering new learning opportunities and varying perspectives.
  • Children are able to generate questions from their reflections as ‘What if’ moments 

Our school community will promote thinking that enables them to

  • Achieve deeper thinking through confidence and talk.
  • Belong to a community that questions its understanding and the views of others.
  • Take time to focus and concentrate on the task in hand.
  • Debate and challenge each other whilst recognising that an individual has the right to their own view which will be respected.
